Another Melbourne International Games Week is now behind us. MIGW 2024 was by far our biggest yet.
PANEL: From Creative Passion To Sustainable Practice
PANELISTS: Byron Scullin, Carly Dober, Lisy Kane, Matt Schenkel
HOSTED BY: Jini Maxwell
AUDIENCE: Intermediate | Advanced
"You've worked on a game or two and now you're starting to think longer term. Can you build a sustainable business out of your passion for game audio? Our panel will help demystify that process with practical tips, stories from the field, and evergreen advice on how to preserve and nurture your creativity."
Thanks to everyone who joined us at High Score 2024 where Matt shared the stage with a panel of experts across games, audio, and mental health sectors, discussing how to look after yourself while building and maintaining a career in the games industry. This was a super candid panel, with everyone sharing personal stories and their methods of avoiding/overcoming burnout.
"Matt - thank you for your honesty about the hustle and for bringing the perspective of someone in the weeds working right now, it was an essential counterbalance and grounded the panel incredibly well."
- Tim Shiel, High Score Co-Curator
"The Indie BYOG team are partnering with Xsolla to deliver an alcohol-free games industry social on the Tuesday evening of GCAP 2024. We have confirmed that there will be space for a limited number of games to be demoed during the event, making this showcase a great opportunity to get your project in front of a large crowd of games industry professionals attending GCAP, such as publishers, investors, fellow developers, and more."
With the support of Xsolla and IGEA, and in collaboration with Onerat Games, we hosted a very special showcase on the Tuesday evening of GCAP 2024. We brought together over 20 ANZ indie games to take over the Meet To Match area in the GCAP foyer, showing an eclectic mix of well-known and never-before-seen indie games to the demographic of games industry professionals at GCAP.
Feedback for this event was overwhelmingly positive, with many showcasers expressing they made some valuable connections, and several noting that they discovered bugs and were able to fix them in advance of Play Now and PAX later in the week!
Damn! Earn to Die Rogue has won the Excellence in Mobile award at the 2024 Australian Game Developer Awards (AGDAs)! We had the pleasure of joining a handful of the Sydney-based Not Doppler team on stage to accept this award.
“Not Doppler and our new title Earn To Die Rogue was nominated for the Excellence in Mobile Award, which is reserved for the best mobile game developed within Australia in that year. Not only were we nominated... WE WON!! Us here at Not Doppler are thrilled with the award. We want to thank you the players who continue to push us to innovate and improve Earn To Die Rogue. We've got much more planned for the future of the game, this is just the beginning.”
- Daniel, Not Doppler
We had the opportunity to support Technically Games as their exclusive Industry Sponsor for Lightning Talks 2024!
We've had this event on our radar for several years, since the first Technically Games online conference in 2020, and attended our first event during MIGW 2023 - Lightning Talks Presented by Technically Games & IGDA Melbourne.
The talks spanned many areas of game development and were all inspiring. We're honoured to have been involved and help Technically Games and IGDA Melbourne deliver Lightning Talks 2024!
Technically Games is an online, community-run event designed to sit alongside and augment the time-honoured game development conferences already happening in Australia.
They aim to provide a platform for all things technical in games: programming, art, security, and more. Their focus is in the craft of making games, from engines that make things run, to the animation that breathes life into characters, and everything in between.
